obama's first week - tawlk amungst yuhselves...

c-span video of obama's press conference friday. gov. granholm from MI, biden, emanuel (in the house!) to explore legislating - one can only hope - carrot and sticking detroit to put Americans to work making electric cars post-haste.

he spoke broadly answering the question of exactly what his first priorities would be on friday, but he did mention specifically that the country couldn't continue to hemorrhage jobs before his inaguration without that affecting the game.

taking an assuringly more ambitious tone, rahm emanuel suggested on cbs this morning that the combination of the economic meltdown and the momentum of president-elect's victory suggests it's a ripe time to try and address BOTH energy independence and health care to stimulate job creation, and generally ease the suffering of taxpayers to save the economy.

i'm off to find his first weekly radio address for more clues...

agreed, there are many opportunities for growth in both fields -- particularly energy independence/"green collar jobs". this is uncharted territory in the u.s., but europe is/has been very optimistic that creating jobs that help the world reduce carbon emissions by reconfiguring transportation, construction, power generation, etc., will create new goods and service, new businesses, and millions of new jobs.

i watched the press conference on friday -- it was a decent first go at delivering quite somber information to the press. he made a point to say that bush was still the president (don't shoot me -- i'm just the messenger until january 20)). and the nancy reagan seance bit was pretty funny.

i think he did a good job in his first post-election press event. he has already called nancy reagan to apologize (ha!), and the 'mutt' bit re: the new family pet also felt real and witty without overstepping.

in the tradition of nancy and mary todd lincoln, hilary clinton is rumored to have held meetings with a mystic/psychic in the white house. jesus.
